American sportswear giant New Balance has filed a lawsuit against Italian luxury footwear brand Golden Goose over its ‘dad’ shoes, which the former claims infringe upon its own ‘Dad’ sneaker.
According to court documents filed in a federal court on Wednesday, New Balance alleges that Golden Goose’s ‘Dad-Star’ and ‘Super-Star’ models too closely resemble its chunky ‘990’ silhouette. The Boston-based company claims that Golden Goose’s shoes feature similar design elements such as an oversized midsole, a stitched upper, and a rounded shape.
In the lawsuit, New Balance points to the Dad-Star and Super-Star’s widespread popularity as evidence of consumer confusion. .
