Lids opens first physical NBA store in Australia
Sportswear retailer Lids opened this month its first physical NBA store in Melbourne, Australia and announced plans to open a second location in Sydney later this year.
The NBA store offers a range of official NBA and WNBA memorabilia and official league merchandise, along with sporting goods and collectibles from top brands such as NikeUnder ArmourNew EraWilson
Similarly to other store locations, Lids’ new Australia store will offer on-site customization services for shoppers to personalize jerseys and hats. In store, shoppers can also find several interactive displays including NBA 2K booths and NBA player height matchups.
“Australia has both sports enthusiasts and avid followers of American streetwear,” said Britten Maughan, president at Lids. “That is the perfect cross-section for Lids. Lids is where sports meet fashion. Whether you are buying a hat to support your favorite team or to match your favorite sneaker we have a hat for you.”
This expansion follows an extended multi-year collaboration between the NBA and global licensed sports merchandiser, Fanatics, which also operates the NBA’s online store.
Earlier this summer, the NBA opened its first store in Paris marking the third NBA store in Europe, following openings in Milan and London. Lids also operates the US NBA’s flagship store.
Lids Sports Group is the largest licensed sports retailer in North America, selling fan and fashion-oriented headwear and apparel across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico through almost 1,200 retail locations.
