There’s a movie party happening or something? Not sure, tuned into the Academy Awards to watch Rihanna perform. The singer is nominated, alongside collaborators including director Ryan Coogler, for best original song for “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and her performance was easily a highlight of the night.
The 35-year-old swapped her leather cutout look from the red carpet for a custom John Galliano for Maison Margiela two-piece ensemble consisting of a bra top with beaded details and a pair of wide-leg trousers covered in floral appliques.
At her last big performance, the Super Bowl, Rih decided to stick with just one outfit the whole time, explaining in an interview beforehand, “My goal is to do [no costume changes]. Seriously. You get 12 to 13 minutes. You just want to come out, rock out, and be done. Costume changes aren’t fun.” For that show, she surrounded herself with dancers, but “Lift Me Up” has a pretty different vibe. In the video for the song, she just stands on a beach (there’s also footage from the movie), so for this performance she stood on a pedestal and let her voice do the work.
Obviously, the Navy went nuts.

Honestly, we would love Rihanna to win just because…what does a Rihanna Oscars acceptance speech sound like? Seriously.
