Gigi Hadid was a vision in black at the 2023 Met Gala. The supermodel and mother graced the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s iconic steps on Monday, May 1, wearing a sexy, sheer gown with silver details, custom-made by Givenchy.
The theme of the evening was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” and Hadid definitely understood the assignment. She honored the late designer’s life and work by wearing little gloves (everyone forgets Karl’s little gloves!) and a floral brooch. To complete the look, her hair was bleached and tousled, and her makeup was bright and just a little ’90s. Styled by Mimi Cuttrell, Hadid also sported pearls and diamonds on her ears, fingers, wrists, and neck, courtesy of Smiling Rocks and Lagos jewelry.
The long train added a formal element to what could have been a cocktail-style dress.
Smizing like a pro.
Ahead of the event, Hadid honored Lagerfeld—whom she considered a friend—with a series of photos shared to her Instagram Stories on April 30. The two worked closely on a number of occasions prior to his death in 2019 at the age of 85.
“Tomorrow we celebrate Karl at the Met Gala,” Hadid wrote on Instagram. “I feel so lucky to have experienced this legend! He is so very missed… I can’t wait to see all the fashion houses pay tribute to him creatively.”
Historically, Gigi Hadid has been one of the Met Gala’s best-dressed guests. Last year she subverted the “gilded glamour” dress code in a Versace red leather catsuit and corset.
In 2021 she drew comparisons to animated characters like Jessica Rabbit and Ariel from The Little Mermaid after debuting red hair at the Met Gala.
So, how long until her daughter, Khai, joins her as a third-generation model? Between Lily-Rose Depp and Kaia Gerber and Leni Klum, the nepo-baby-to-supermodel pipeline has never been stronger, and we know the girl would slay!
