Dove Cameron does know that the role of Wednesday Addams has already been cast in the upcoming Addams Family, right?
The actor, who was nominated for best new artist at the VMAs 2022, walked the black carpet in a Paco Rabanne floral maxidress accessorized with leather belts. Her look practically screamed Wednesday Addams, down to the singer’s gothic nail art, vampy leather collar, and braided pigtails—a not-so-subtle nod to the emo character.
Notably, Cameron is one of the stars in the Descendants film series, in which she plays the child of Disney villain Maleficent. The craving for darker roles (or, in this case, aesthetics) is clearly something Cameron is after.
Her Descendants costar Sofia Carson also walked the carpet in her best Addams Family cosplay, channeling the family’s matriarch, Morticia.
Cameron performed her single “Boyfriend” during the preshow, changing into a metallic bra and a white overshirt and slicking back her ponytail for the high-energy performance. Her sexy video for the song, which came out earlier this year, was emotional for the 26-year-old, who wrote on TikTok: “Will come back & speak on how much it means to me to write/release a queer perspective song & have it feel powerful and right, not terrifying like I had always imagined.”
The song, which Cameron told host Nessa Diab is about her experiences as a queer person, is just another step the actor is taking toward living authentically. She opened up about her depression earlier this year, taking to Instagram to talk about how she was struggling “more than half the time.”
