Lily-Rose Depp paid tribute to supermodel Kate Moss in a new photo shoot. The 23-year-old model and actor is featured on the cover of i-D‘s spring Timeless Issue in a version of the sheer dress that basically invented the concept of the sheer dress. (See Depp in the look over at )
In 1993, Moss wore a completely sheer Liza Bruce dress to an event in London hosted by Elite Models. The then 19-year-old wore nothing underneath the silvery slip except a pair of black underwear. Moss wore little to no makeup, and styled her hair back in a ponytail. She accessorized with flip-flops (the only time they’ve ever been chic).
Depp, whose father, Johnny Depp, dated Moss from 1994 to 1998, was styled similarly to the supermodel. (Depp’s mother is French singer, model, and actor Vanessa Paradis.) Like Moss, she also skipped the bra and wore black underwear. Like Moss, she wore little to no makeup and wore her hair in a casual updo. The only difference, really, is that Depp is holding a cigarette. And, unlike Moss, she was probably aware that the dress was transparent.
“I did not know that the dress was see-through until the pictures came out the next day in the newspaper,” Moss recalled to British in 2022.
Depp intentionally keeps her personal life personal but did address her nepo-baby status (again) in the interview. “I’m so careful about these conversations now,” she said. “I feel like my parents did the best job that they possibly could at giving me the most ‘normal childhood’ that they could. And obviously, that still was not a normal childhood. I’m super aware of the fact that my childhood did not look like everybody’s. But at the same time, it’s all that I know, so I have had to find comfort in it somehow. I’m really lucky that I’ve been surrounded by people who value normalcy and who value real life, and I think that’s the only way to exist in this world and not go insane.”
Lily-Rose Depp stars in HBO’s The Idol, which is due out later this year.
