New-It-skirt alert! Both Gen Z princess Olivia Rodrigo and Gen X America’s sweetheart Reese Witherspoon are rocking the same Valentino micro-mini in the pages of our hoitiest-toitiest fashion mags.
In her recent Vogue cover shoot, the “Driver’s License” singer posed in, among other outfits, a fuzzy white Maison Margiela sweater, Prada heels, and a light pink Valentino skirt barely wider than a belt made of roses. It’s the last slide on this post.
The Legally Blonde star, meanwhile, rocked the same skirt in Harper’s Bazaar, but paired with a white button-down, Valentino tie, and platform heels. Fourth slide, for reference.
The skirt is fresh off the fall 2023 runway and not yet available, but Valentino makes another rose-patterned skirt that costs just under $7,000, so I’m gonna estimate this one costs…a lot. Which is reasonable given there are so many places to wear it! The store. The dentist’s. The dentist store. On a walk.
In 2022, Miu Miu’s deconstructed miniskirt swept the internet after it was featured on the covers of several magazines, including Vogue Korea, InStyle Mexico, Elle Korea, and more. Most memorably, Nicole Kidman wore the itty-bitty mini on the cover of Vanity Fair. And those were just the covers—several other celebrities were photographed in the piece for editorials and red carpets alike.
And then there was the Diesel micro-mini skirt that went viral last year, mostly for being completely unwearable. The skirt, which could more accurately be described as a belt, fastens with Velcro and costs $1,000. But you know what they say about publicity….

Even though Witherspoon has a daughter older than Rodrigo, the two women have more than a skirt in common: They’re both on that single-ladies grind. Rodrigo most recently split from DJ Zack Bia, and Witherspoon is moving on from ex-husband Jim Toth. “The divorce decision was not an easy one for her. It was rough to reach the decision and to announce it,” a source recently revealed. “Reese is doing much better now though. She has no regrets and is just focused on her kids and work. She has a big group of loyal friends that she leans on. There is no drama with Jim. They coparent and this is the focus.”
