Urban Outfitters continues European growth with new Madrid store
Urban Outfitters
It’s the fifth Urban Outfitters store opening in Europe this year, following Stockholm, Gothenburg, Norwich and Hannover.
That expansion in Europe — overseen by the London-based team — continues into 2024 and beyond with a second flagship location on the Champs-Élysées Paris in March 2024 and further openings in 11 European countries over the next five years. The company currently has 68 locations across the EU.
The new store is located on key shopping destination Gran Via 43, with the building created by Madrid architect D Luis Gutiérrez Soto.
Built as a cinema, it has been restored to its original design and its neoclassical façade has attractive decorative motifs.
The store itself spans over 8,000 sq ft across three floors.
Anthony Clarke, Concept Director, at Urban Outfitters EU said: “Our ambition with new stores is to look for historical buildings that we can restore and bring back to life. Madrid was one of the most exciting restoration opportunities being an old cinema, and it felt like the perfect location for an Urban Outfitters. Our team has done an exceptional piece of work.”
And Emma Wisden, Managing Director, Urban Outfitters EU added: “We’ve delivered strong growth across Europe over the past couple of years and are excited to be in a position to continue to grow despite tough prevailing economic winds. We have always prioritised an amazing in-store brand experience and in Madrid the team has delivered on that brilliantly.”
