An elevated take on the white tank top was a key trend to emerge from Fashion Week. Simple vests were styled with slouchy jeans at Bottega and semisheer midi skirts at Prada, taking the tank from workaday basic to coveted fashion piece in an instant.
If there were any doubt over the ubiquitousness of the white tank this summer, it was dispelled by the sight of Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, wearing one to join Prince William and their daughter, Princess Charlotte, in the stands at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre to take in the Commonwealth Games on Tuesday, August 2. Kate used a white vest to dial down the formality of her crisp white tailoring.
Sporting her signature bouncy blow-dry, Kate Middleton kept her accessories minimal: She wore a matching necklace and earrings and two-tone Camilla Elphick shoes, which she previously wore to attend the polo in early July.
Kate’s sporting calendar has been nonstop since the start of summer. The patron of the All England Club took in several matches at Wimbledon, including cheering on Cameron Norrie against David Goffin. She was in the crowd to support William at a charity polo match, and had a Pretty Woman at Royal Ascot in Alessandra Rich polka dots. Most recently, she got stuck in at the Sail Grand Prix—appropriately dressed in Breton stripes—boarding an F50 foiling catamaran to take part in a race against New Zealand.
