Good morning, sleepy Swifties!
While the world (or at least, most of the continental United States) was sleeping, devoted Taylor Swift fans stayed up till midnight on September 20 to hear the singer’s latest news, delivered via TikTok. The reveal turned out to be the name of the 13th track of her forthcoming album Midnights: “Mastermind.”
Swift, meanwhile, attended the Nashville Songwriter Awards in Tennessee. Sporting her signature bangs and red-lip combo, the 32-year-old hit the red carpet in a single-sleeve black cutout dress by Michael Kors. She styled the high-slit dress with sparkly silver sandals.
Swift has been walking red carpets in several shimmery dresses (plus a jumpsuit) lately. The cool colors—black, silver, royal blue—and shine feel very New Year’s Eve, which, of course, is all about a countdown to midnight….
Back in August, Swift announced that her 10th studio album, Midnights, will be dropping on October 21. She also shared that news at midnight, because the woman really loves a theme.

“This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams,” Swift wrote on Instagram on August 29, hours after she won a VMA for the 10-minute version of “All Too Well.” “The floors we pace and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching—hoping that just maybe, when the clock strikes twelve…we’ll meet ourselves.”
The new album is inspired by “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life” and features longtime Taylor Swift collaborator Jack Antonoff.
With Midnights comes a new album aesthetic as well. Say “so long” to the rusty red plaids of Evermore and the fog-drenched forests of Folklore. In the Midnights imagery she’s shared so far, Swift seems to be embracing ’60s California glam—think shimmery blue eye shadow, cozy midcentury wood paneling, telephones with coiled cords, and sequined minidresses. The stuff of sweet dreams (which I wish I were having right now). Maybe Swift could name her next album Reasonable Hour….
