One might argue that October is no time for Barbiecore (hot pink and pumpkin spice aren’t exactly complementary), but Mindy Kaling does not care.
Late last week, the writer and actor wore an outfit that embodies Barbiecore, and communicates very clearly that she, like so many of us, is counting down the days to the release of Greta Gerwig’s in July 2023. Kaling wore a hot pink miniskirt with three diamond cutouts on one side, which reveal some upper thigh, with a matching long-sleeve bodysuit featuring a dramatic sweetheart neckline and exaggerated shoulders. Put together, the separates create the illusion of a minidress.
Kaling wore the hot pink outfit with silver open-toe heels, and she wore her hair down and smooth with waves at the ends. Kaling opted for neutral makeup, letting the hot pink speak for itself.
She shared the look on her Instagram grid with the caption, “First of all, how dare you.”

On Thursday, October 13, Kaling had another monochromatic moment in red for the Ralph Lauren show in Los Angeles. For this event, she wore a bright red silk pantsuit with wide-leg trousers and a robe-style jacket with a sash. She added pointed-toe heels, a silver necklace, and earrings to complete the look.
Kaling shared the look on IG along with an emotional caption about what Ralph Lauren means to her as the child of immigrants. “Ralph Lauren is so important to me and my family. Nothing said ‘you’ve made it’ growing up than a Polo Ralph Lauren shirt,” Kaling wrote. “My dad still buys them for everyone he loves. From the comforter set I took to college to the towels in our bathrooms, we loved everything about him. I think for immigrants, and children of immigrants, Ralph Lauren is a classic symbol of American success. I feel grateful to have been a guest at his first ever Los Angeles show.”
