It’s Rihanna’s world, and honestly, I’m just happy to be here.
The 34-year-old slayed the 2023 Golden Globe Awards on Tuesday, January 10, in true Rihanna fashion—that is, with luxuriously over-the-top style. Arriving on the arm of rapper A$AP Rocky, with whom she shares a son, the Barbadian singer wore a voluminous black gown with an architectural updo and a diamond choker necklace.

RiRi’s song “Lift Me Up,” featured in the Black Panther sequel, , was nominated for best original song. Rihanna faced some fierce competition in the best song category. Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Guillermo del Toro and Roeban Katz, and Kala Bhairava, M. M. Keeravani, and Rahul Sipligunj were all nominated for their original compositions, with the award ultimately going to the latter trio.
Even though Rihanna didn’t technically win, she still sort of won, garnering spontaneous shout-outs from presenters on stage. While some people are getting a bit impatient as they wait for the superstar to release her next full album, Golden Globes host Jerrod Charmichael told her to go ahead and “take your time, girl,” during a break in the proceedings. Rihanna also got a shout-out at the awards from Niecy Nash-Betts, who told the artist, “Rihanna, I love you and I dressed up as you for Halloween. I just had to say that.” Later on Billy Porter added, “If I believed in Halloween, I would have dressed up as Rihanna as well.”

Basically (even though I was a bit disappointed not to see a return of the iconic bejeweled flask) there was no, and will never be, any real competition with Rihanna in the serve department.
