Whether it’s the Cannes Film Festival or the British Independent Film Awards, you can always count on Florence Pugh to bring her sartorial A-game. Her bubblegum pink Rodarte satin dress at this month’s BIFA in London was applauded the industry over, while that co-ord by Emilia Wickstead (at the Tiffany & Co.’s “Vision & Virtuosity” exhibit) left us reeling.
That said, perhaps her very best looks have all had a more specific common thread. Cast your minds back to October, when the Don’t Worry Darling actor attended her The Wonder premiere. She wore a pink feathered dress with cutout detailing by Valentino.
At the Valentino Haute Couture fall-winter fashion show in July? A hot pink tulle Valentino gown with ruffled neckline and full skirt. On the front row at Paris Fashion Week in October? A mini Valentino dress paired with the brand’s cult, super-high heels in white. You get the picture. A whole host of Pugh’s most adored red-carpet looks are a celebration of the actor’s close relationship with Pierpaolo Piccioli, the Italian fashion house’s creative director.
As such, it came as no surprise when the 26-year-old stepped out on the British Fashion Awards 2022 Royal Albert Hall red carpet in another epic Valentino number this week. This time, a sweeping red backless gown which serves as a master class in Christmas party dressing.
Paired with slicked-back hair and the dark, vampy lip which has become Pugh’s signature, the dress featured a dramatic train, fitted bodice, and elegant shoulder straps. If you needed a sign to level up your office drinks getup, this is it.
Pugh has previously spoken out about her Valentino adoration on her Instagram feed. “Unbelievable craftsmanship went into the making of this gown,” she wrote. “Wearing @pppiccioli dresses are so easy, I step into his elegant designs and become alive. I thank every hand that helped this creation at @maisonvalentino, and to all those who helped me step onto that carpet. Thank you for making me feel my best, for filling me with confidence and love. I appreciate it all.”
We’re fairly certain whom Pugh will be backing at the British Fashion Awards ceremony tonight.
