First-time Emmy nominee Elle Fanning took to the awards-show red carpet like the queen she plays on The Great, in a stunning black and pink silk dress that channels the ‘50s and ’60s.
The strapless gown features a column skirt and a bustier top with pink sequins, then balloons out with a black train lined with pink. Similar looks that immediately spring to mind:
Fanning completed her ensemble with a diamond necklace, dramatic winged eyeliner, and her hair pinned in an updo that she topped off with a diamond barrette.
Her style has always veered toward the hyperfeminine; on the Cannes red carpet this past spring, she went full fairy-tale princess. Guess her work as Aurora in the Maleficent movies inspired her!
Fanning is vying for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series, and took to Instagram in July to express how much the honor meant to her.
“I can’t put into words what The Great means to me,” she wrote under a picture of herself chatting between takes with costar Nicholas Hoult, who is also nominated. “To be recognized for playing Catherine, a character who has shaped me personally in so many ways, is a moment I will never forget. We are on set filming season 3 right now and my partner in comedy, Nicholas Hoult broke the news to me with the crew and my fellow cast mates by my side. Wouldn’t have wanted it any other way!…HUZZAH ! Thank you to the television academy for this unbelievable honor!”
