One of the questions fashion has thrown up this week: When is the collaboration between Victoria Beckham and Rick Owens happening? Photographs of the British designer wining and dining with the California rebel and his partner Michèle Lamy in Paris led to assumptions—okay, fine, just hopes and prayers—that the creatives could have a little something up their (artfully draped) sleeves.
Beckham’s return to France follows her successful spring-summer 2023 show—her first in the fashion capital and a big step up in terms of craft, execution, and styling. “I feel like this has been a flag-in-the-sand moment for the brand,” said Beckham of doubling down on her company values and recentering the modern VB woman who is “quite intellectual, quite cool, quite subversive.”
This time around on French soil, Beckham seemed to be forward-planning while soaking up the festive spirit. The jewel tones in her autumn-winter 2023 collection, in particular, looked suitably chocolate-boxy next to the Christmas tree lights, as seen in this ’fit she posted to Instagram of herself in a purple turtleneck and mid-length camel skirt.

She made sure to also read from the same dark direction (read “black”) the designer has become known for. In her now-trademark inky pantaboots and an oversized peacoat, she looked one part designer, two parts influencer as she strolled through the Marais.
Her sojourn across the channel followed an altogether more playful fashion tack in London. At British Vogue’s Forces for Change event, Beckham modeled a backless ivory silk halter top with tailored trousers that showed off her new bold, decisive techniques on the design floor. The designer is clearly enjoying a newfound flush of confidence, and it suits her. “I’m just so happy to be part of the conversation,” Beckham said in September. “It’s me just getting a little foot in the door.” People are taking note.
