We need to talk about the American visit of Kate Middleton and Prince William—specifically their coordinated wardrobe.
The royal couple had a lot to contend with as they set off for their three-day trip to Boston. Their first visit to America since 2014 is meant to be seen as a “Super Bowl moment” for the newly dubbed Prince and Princess of Wales, culminating in the second annual Earthshot Prize Awards, which honors strides taken in the fight against climate change. However, a racist incident at Buckingham Palace and the ongoing rift between royal brothers loom heavily over the momentous occasion.
Setting the tone for the visit, Kate and Will presented a united front as they touched down at Logan International Airport on November 30 dressed in perfectly tailored suits. Their coordinated style continued as the prince matched his tie to his wife’s Burberry tartan dress and Alexander McQueen coat to meet Mayor Michelle Wu at City Hall.
Though less matchy-matchy, the royal couple cozied up courtside at a Boston Celtics game later in the evening—Prince William going full Madewell girly in a chambray button-down, while Kate kept things classic in a vintage Chanel jacket and black pants.
Prince William’s denim shirt may be peak #Americana, but it does seem like he has never seen a basketball before in his life….
Though this trip was always going to be carefully observed, all eyes were truly on Prince William and Kate Middleton on December 1. On the second day of the couple’s trip, Netflix dropped the first trailer for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s upcoming documentary, a move some royal experts have seen as completely intentional. However, if the Prince and Princess of Wales were rattled by the trailer or their appearance in it, they didn’t show it.
Instead, the pair were all smiles as they visited Greentown Labs (North America’s largest clean-tech incubator) in matching maroon. Wearing her second suit of the trip, Kate Middleton was the picture of strength in a burgundy suit and pink blouse, while Prince William dressed in a matching sweater under his charcoal suit.
The message is clear: There are two royal power couples in town.
