The Kardashian-Jenners gathered for another extravagant party—and this time Kim Kardashian’s and Kylie Jenner’s looks caused the most controversy.
On Saturday, most of the clan gathered to celebrate Mason Disick’s bar mitzvah, a Jewish coming of age tradition that occurs at 13 years old. Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick dated on and off from 2006 to 2015 and share two more children: 10-year-old Penelope and eight-year-old Reign.
To mark the momentous occasion, E! News reports that Kourtney and Scott hosted the event at the Offsunset lounge in West Hollywood. Aside from Mason’s proud parents and siblings, attendees included Kylie Jenner, Khloé Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Kris Jenner, Kim Kardashian, and North West. Other people were probably there too….
Kylie Jenner wore a body-hugging latex dress and boots with her hair pinned up in a messy ponytail. Though some Reddit users criticized Kylie and the rest of her sisters for dressing inappropriately for what is essentially a preteen birthday party, Instyle reports that Kylie came straight from DJ Zack Bia’s holiday party at Catch Steak LA. And even if she didn’t, what’s so inappropriate about an ankle-length dress?
In keeping with what appears to be an all-black theme—you can see pics of Kourtney and Scott’s looks here—Khloé arrived in a form-fitting black catsuit. “Mazel Tov Mason!!! The girls and I attempted to take some pics,” she captioned an Instagram post with nieces Penelope and North.
For her part, Kim showed up in a cropped concert baby tee and leather pants, while Kendall opted for an ultrafeminine black silk dress with a lace bodice. “Usually Kendall kinda bores me, but she’s the only one they wore something appropriate,” one Reddit user commented. “Kim’s crop top with leather pants would be cute at a rodeo, not a 13-year-olds bar mitzvah.”
As someone who had a bat mitzvah [redacted] years ago, I still don’t see the problem. (My theme was Broadway, in case you were wondering.)
However, one newly minted member of the Kardashian-Jenner family may have missed out on the fun. Some fans noticed that Travis Barker didn’t make an appearance, possibly due to his tense relationship with Scott Disick. Though there has been a fair amount of drama between Kourtney and Scott since the reality star began dating her now husband, Kris Jenner vehemently denied the latter has been “excommunicated” from the family.
“Scott will NEVER be excommunicated from our family,” Kris commented on a Paper Magazine Instagram post suggesting he was being left behind in favor of Travis. “He’s the father of my grandchildren and a special part of our family… we love him and not true! 🥰😍”
Despite family squabbles, it’s clear Kourtney and Scott were able to put aside any differences to celebrate their son. To echo Khloé, mazel tov, Mason!
