Lila Moss, 19-year-old daughter of supermodel Kate Moss and a rising model in her own right, just attended the 2022 Met Gala alongside her mom wearing perhaps the most important accessory of the night: An insulin monitor and pump that keeps her healthy.
The mother-daughter duo hit the 2022 Met Gala red carpet with both wearing Burberry—a dark gown for Kate and a sheer logo dress for Lila.
Lila has type 1 diabetes, meaning that her pancreas doesn’t produce enough insulin, the hormone which regulates the amount of glucose in your blood. In the short- and long-term, the condition can lead to a host of problems, but with an insulin pump that monitors her blood sugar levels, Lila can keep it under control.
Even though over 1.5 million Americans live with the condition, it’s rare to see these life-saving devices in a fashion context, let alone worn visibly to one of the industry’s biggest nights. That’s why it’s so refreshing to see Lila normalizing them. Specifically, The Daily Mail identified the small circle on her arm as the monitor, and the pod on her thigh as the pump.
This isn’t the first time the teenager has worn her pump to a high-fashion event. Walking in the Versace show in September, the younger Moss had the device on her leg, which of course took nothing away from her fabulous outfit.
Lila Grace Moss is the 19-year-old daughter of Kate Moss and Dazed Media founder Jefferson Hack. In her , the model opened up about her experience growing up with a very famous mother. She said she noticed Kate’s fame around age eight. “That was when I realized the paparazzi thing, that they were interested in her, for some reason,” she said. “Then I went to secondary school and everyone was like, ‘Oh, your mum’s Kate Moss!’” In a high-pitched tone, Moss joked that she would respond, “‘How do you know who she is? She’s old! She’s old and boring!’”

Lila said she was “quite protective of her mom,” specifically pointing to tabloid photos taken when she was a child where she appeared to be growling. “All my mum’s friends say that I was so scary as a child,” she added. “I was quite serious. But also, I would always copy her. She would always have her head down and not look at the camera, so I’d always put my head down and not look at the camera. I still do it.”
