If a Met Gala happens in New York but Rihanna’s not around to attend it, did it even happen? Thank God we didn’t have to find a way to answer that question, because the queen is here! She was so late, but she’s here!
Rihanna hit the iconic steps at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday, May 1, in a look that will be hard to top next year—even for RiRi. The expecting mom, who revealed her second pregnancy during her performance at the Super Bowl halftime show earlier this year, arrived in what is essentially a white cocoon of rosettes. The Valentino look, which featured an ivory skirt with a train that required multiple handlers, covered the singer from head to toe in bridal white—probably a nod to Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel bride.
The evening’s dress code, “in honor of Karl,” has garnered plenty of interpretations, but leave it Rihanna to arrive in something totally unique.
The superstar accessorized with white cat-eye sunglasses, which were wearing their own false lashes, and a chunky ivory cuff. To finish the look, she wore a bright red lip. And A$AP Rocky was there too, in jeans and a red plaid kilt by Gucci.
Rihanna removed the hood to reveal stunning pearl earrings, layered pearl necklaces, and frosty eye shadow.
The 35-year-old has more than earned her reputation as the reigning queen of the Met Gala. Who can forget her 2015 gown by Guo Pei?
Or her Margiela-fied Pope get-up in 2018?
Met Gala Queen Rihanna, long may she reign.
