Ever since we first saw stills of Margot Robbie playing Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming film last year, we’ve seen many celebrities do their best Barbie doll impressions. With the film set to land on July 21, the #Barbiecore trend is showing no sign of slowing down, with saturated pinks, minidresses, and high heels becoming a mainstay on the red carpet.
On Thursday night, Hailey Bieber went into full-on Barbie mode when celebrating the first anniversary of her beauty brand, Rhode. She wore a custom Vivienne Westwood Couture pink corset minidress, which was covered in sparkling rose Swarovski crystals, had delicate bow details on the bodice and hip, and featured a plunging draped bodice.
As for the accessories, she certainly committed to the disco theme and added sparkle with an evening bag that perfectly matched her high-shine minidress and a magnificent diamond tennis necklace by Tiffany & Co., along with matching diamond earrings and a dazzling ring.
There is no doubt that Barbie was on the mood board for Bieber and her stylist Dani Michelle for this look, as even her high heels gave the illusion of arched, shoeless feet—just like the doll. Barbie’s plastic toes are permanently in a pointed position, giving the illusion of “invisible heels”—and Bieber perfectly recreated this Barbie signature with Gianvito Rossi’s nude heels with perspex straps.
“Barbie really is interlinked with fashion, because how you play with her is by dressing her,” Barbie costume designer Jacqueline Durran explained to Vogue in an exclusive interview. “Clothes are her form of expression.” She noted that pink is an important part of Barbie’s wardrobe, but it isn’t everything. “It is a very strong part of her wardrobe but it’s not 100% of her wardrobe,” Durran says. “But if you wanted to make something immediately look ‘Barbie,’ I think pink does that for you.” This pink dress has certainly has done that for Hailey Bieber.
