I hope everybody has their scissors ready. Jennifer Lopez was just seen in an off-the-shoulder athleisure look, which means cold-shoulder tops are back and it’s time to start cutting the necklines out of our sweatshirts once again.
Paps caught Lopez and her teenage kid Emme Muniz out for a walk in Los Angeles on October 15, dressed in some distinctly early 2010s normcore. Lopez wore a baggy white sweatshirt-style top that was artfully styled so it hangs off of one shoulder, and she completed the Flashdance-esque look with a pair of metallic gray leggings and chunky white dad sneakers. The singer added a gray shoulder bag, windshield sunglasses, and a slicked back ponytail.
Emme’s ’fit, truth be told, was equally 2013-coded. The 15-year-old wore checkered Vans, cargo shorts, and a graphic tee, which they accessorized with a black backwards baseball cap and…do my eyes deceive me ,or are those gauges in their ears?
Early ’00s styles have come back with a vengeance in the past couple of years, so it was only a matter of time before the cold-shoulder tops made their return. Even the most polarizing trends of the decade—ballet flats, giant belts, newsboy caps, low-rise jeans—have come back in style. The good news is that at this rate, we’ll all be back in our elasticated skinny jeans before you know it.
So, thank you, Jennifer Lopez.
