I’m as pro-SPF as the next millennial, but there’s no denying the ultimate form of sun protection is, at the end of the day, a physical barrier. Jennifer Lawrence knows what I’m talking about.
The actor stepped out in New York City on Sunday, July 31, armed with parasol to shield herself from the intense summer sunshine. She kept her outfit simple, wearing the cool girl’s spin on the jeans-and-a-T-shirt uniform—a cropped black tee paired with midrise wide-leg denim in a lightly distressed wash. Lawrence finished the look with khaki slides, rectangular wire sunglasses, a croc-embossed shoulder bag, and a sticker-covered Hydro Flask water bottle. Because hydration is important too!
This is truly the ultimate weekend outfit. A relaxed fit, unfussy shoes, and sun protection form the holy trinity of a summer wardrobe. And lest you think it’s a tad on the boring side, take a closer look at the sticker on that water bottle.

Toni Collette’s face is an iconic accessory, IMO.
Jennifer Lawrence has been photographed in a variety of summer looks while out in New York City lately. There was her casual spin on the corset dress, a summery two-piece with crochet details, and a monochromatic overalls-plus-bucket hat look that’s one part coastal grandmother, one part part effortless It girl. And isn’t that the balance we’re all striving for?
Lawrence, 31, gave birth to her first child with husband Cooke Maroney earlier this year. In an interview with last November, the actor explained that she plans to keep the child’s life as private as possible. “Every instinct in my body wants to protect their privacy for the rest of their lives, as much as I can,” she said. “I don’t want anyone to feel welcome into their existence. And I feel like that just starts with not including them in this part of my work.”
