Saclàb, the German resale site specialised in pre-owned luxury handbags, founded in 2018 by Alexandra Stück and her brother Jan-Oliver, has recently completed a first funding round worth €1.6 million. The operation was carried out with private equity firms TrindVC, from Estonia, and G-Fund, from Germany.
Saclàb commercialises pre-owned handbags in 20 countries, and in 2022 it set a record in Germany by selling a Hermès Birkin bag for €265,000. It plans to use the newly raised capital to strengthen its marketing capabilities, hire new staff, and strengthen its technology infrastructure.
The company, which has not disclosed its revenue results, is also set to launch on the US market. “When we founded the company, it was especially important for us to adopt a business model that we could develop step by step. That is why we initially didn’t invest our budget on major PR and marketing initiatives. This has enabled us to achieve organic and healthy growth in many different areas,” said Jan-Oliver Stück.
A competitor of websites like Collector Square and Monogram Paris, Saclàb is currently concentrating on four labels: Hermès, DiorChanelBottega Veneta
According to estimates from a study by industry player ThredUp, the second-hand fashion and accessories market is set to grow by 127% between now and 2026.
